Here at Local Room Hire, we like to unwind with a drink as much of the next person! Luckily for us, the Canterbury area has plenty of pubs for us to choose from.  From cosy pubs containing some of Kent’s finest ales & beers; to those offering great British fare; to themed pubs with choice selection of spirits! Here are some of our favourites – in no particular order, I might add!

The Artichoke

The Artichoke dates from the 15th century. This traditional pub, boasting period features galore, has a cosy bar area for those after a drink as well as a separate restaurant devoted to those who wish to indulge in the fine selection of great British grub. On a chilly day, they have a log fire lit right through the day making the pub an incredibly warm and welcoming place to be. The food at the Artichoke is second to none, and with a wide range of food from pub classics to house specialities, you won’t be disappointed! The owners and staff are friendly and attentive, making this pub an all-round “not to be missed!”

The Two Sawyers

This attractive pub is situated just outside of the city wall, and is only a short walk from the bus station. The one-bar pub has ample seating and a cosy feel when the fire is roaring. Unlike a lot of pubs, The Two Sawyers has a professional chef at the helm of the kitchen at all times, and boy does it show! They have a selection of local ales that regularly alternate, giving any ale lover a treat each and every visit. The owner and staff are always friendly, ensuring you’ll want to return time after time. Oh, and did I mention they’re one of the few pubs that are dog-friendly in Canterbury?

The Foundry Brew Pub

The Foundry Brew Pub is everything we love about independent pubs and good old Kent produce, and features an on-site micro-brewery that allows its customers to witness the production process first hand! This Victorian building used to be a foundry (hence the name), and throughout the pub, the decor is reminiscent of this. As if an on-site micro brewery wasn’t enough to tempt you, The Foundry has an extensive food menu containing anything from classic chunky sandwiches to old English pies; Kentish ales produced on site teamed with proper British food – what’s not to like?

The Lady Luck

The Lady Luck is a unique and friendly pub situated at the end of the Canterbury High Street. During the day, the pub serves a wide variety of freshly made home cooked food including vegetarian, vegan and children’s options – though, carnivores – you are most certainly not left out! As well as an extensive food menu catering for all tastes, the Lady Luck stock a wide range of ales and beers, offer a healthy selection of cocktails, and have an extraordinary range of rum for you to wet your whistle – a rum lovers dream!
